Soda Inc. gig @ Omilos, Thessaloniki
So recently, one could say that Greece fell in love with "Night Fever", the smashing Soda Inc. hit that's a reinterpretation of the old Motown classic "You Keep Me Hanging On", also known from a cover version by Kim Wilde from back in the 1980ies.
As we just heard, this love is mutual and Soda Inc. aka Babak Shayan and Jon Silva are looking forward to meet old & new friends at Omilos, Thessaloniki on Sunday, the 25th March.
Thanks to our mate Elias Tzikas who brought Soda Inc. over, we will see the "northern Greece/Germany reunion" with Elias himself, of course, Steve Mill (who just did an amazing dub mix of "Night Fever") and Nikos Ploumis providing local DJ support and the crews from Low Profile Booking and the La Palma club in Kozani. Too bad that our Pestolero Chris Niteshake won't make it to Thessaloniki - we'll miss you & have a drink on your behalf.
If you are looking for a decent party on Sunday, don't miss it! If you're allergic to or feel offended by one of the following words, stay away: alcohol, malaka, mounaki, Soda Inc. Please also note the sponsor of that party.

Meet us on last.fm
One of the first social networks we joined though was last.fm. We liked the idea of sharing your musical taste and get recommendations for music to discover. This process may vary in its success, but nevertheless it already led us to music that would have been a shame to have missed.
You can download your free copy of Audioscrobbler, the plugin that will transmit the music you listen to based on its MP3 tags. Needless to say that you can support Pesto by listening to our music (which you do anyways - but why not tell the world?).
Here's a brief roundup of what they say about themselves:
Last.fm is the flagship product from the team that designed the Audioscrobbler music engine. More than ten million times a day, Last.fm users "scrobble" their tracks to our servers, helping to collectively build the world's largest social music platform.Last.fm taps the wisdom of the crowds, leveraging each user's musical profile to make personalised recommendations, connect users who share similar tastes, provide custom radio streams, and much more.Founded by Felix Miller, Martin Stiksel and Richard Jones, we are a London-based company with a music-obsessed team of developers and creative professionals from around the world. It's never been this easy to share your taste and discover new music. Welcome to the social music revolution.
We may offer free downloads to last.fm users exclusively (as we did in the past) so it's not too bad of an idea to sign up. Here's a link to their charts with free MP3 downloads of any genre.

Jon Silva on Clubstar Miami 007 Session
'The Clubstar Family Miami 007 Session' is only available as digital download and it is exclusive on Traxsource. The compilation kicks of with the highly requested 'High Life Natural' track from Karu. This tune hasn't been released yet and is a bonus to Karu's artist album on Little Angel Records. Already included in the Harley & Muscle 'Deep House' compilation and the upcoming 'KaRavan' cd.
From the Soulstar label the compilation contains 2 tracks that are hammered by every bigname of the real house family: Martino's brand new remix of Physics 'So glad' and the magical Kevin Yost remix of Harley & Muscle deep house anthem 'Deeper Love'. The deep house dons from Milan are official WMC djs by the way, so don't forget to check them out when you are going loco in miami .
The compilation also contains the smasher "Make It On Your Own" from Jon Silva's hit single on Conya.
Those who purchase all 14 tracks will be rewarded with a special bonus dj mix by Clubstar and Conya A&R Henri Kohn, who is also responsible for the selection of this comp.
Enjoy the tunes and have fun in the sun!

Poll: text advertisement on pesto.de - yes or no?
We are intending to put Google Adwords on our pages in order to get the costs for server capacity, bandwidth (traffic), etc. sorted and paid. There are several options we have been checking out including Adwords (that would be small text ads in our sidebar) or a Paypal "Donate" button.
The best way to support your favourite label is, of course, buying the music and some merchandising stuff. But some of you might feel to improve their Karma and this can be easily done with this. So here's what we want to know from you.
Save our internet radio - follow up
The interview gives quite some insight on the actual debate RIAA vs. the audience. The article also offers links to more background information on that issue.
Interview with Tim Westergren on createdigitalmusic
US citizens: Save our internet radio!
"On March 1, 2007 the US Copyright Office stunned the Internet radio industry by releasing a ruling on performance royalty fees that are based exclusively on the number of people tuned into an Internet radio station, rather than on a portion of the station’s revenue. They discarded all evidence presented by webcasters about the potentially crippling effect on the industry of such a rate structure, and rubber-stamped the rates requested by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).
Under this royalty structure, an Internet radio station with an average listenership of 1000 people would owe $134,000 in royalties during 2007 - plus $98,000 in back payments for 2006. In 2008 they would owe $171,000, and $220,000 in 2009.
There is no way for a station with 1000 listeners to make that kind of money. That’s over $11 per listener per month in 2007. No Internet radio station currently operating comes even close to that kind of income. Also keep in mind that 1000 listeners is not a large number. Popular stations like Radio Paradise, SOMA, Digitally Imported, radioio, etc have many times that many listeners."
What does that mean? We think, the RIAA is actively seeking to kick indie radios off the market (or have them move to Cayman Islands). The only stations that will afford the rates requested are the major players, the stations that pollute you with Top40 crap and "the greatest hits of the 80ies and 90ies" already. Do we need that? Definitely not!
If you live in the USA, act up and make your voice heard: write to your congress representative. There are more options, so make sure you visit Save our Internet Radio and follow the links there. Other links related to this topic:

Soda Inc. DJ gig at La Rocca, Düsseldorf
As some of you might already know, Soda Inc. is formed by Pestoleros Babak Shayan and Jon Silva and they created quite some buzz with their albums "Full Moon" (2005) and "Inner Vision" (2006) on Plastic City. Bad Boy Babak
We are further investigating what made the iTunes team come to this conclusion and will keep you updated. Our guess, regardless of the reason is: the reason will be pretty funny. Maybe "Jussi ate too much Acid Remix" stroke them a little as some of the staff felt remembered of bad trips back in the 1970ies. Hee hee.

DJ feedback on Pesto 008: Simone de Nauw - Luv
Here's the feedback (by alphabetical order):
Agent Greg, Greece:
I just adore the original mix and the "Be There Dub"! Excellent release!!!!
Alex Flatner (Circle Music):
without no doubt the original mix is the best for me... very catchy and a great track to remember on the dancefloor...it has such a great vibe with the voice, that the voice and the beats you think are really ONE ...Great Release on Pesto and for me till yet the best !
Andreas Hansson, Sweden:
This is a great track one of my favorites at the moment and i think i will play it for a long time. Favorite mixes is the orignal and catchbass remix.
Big Al (Readymix Records), Canada:
Thanks for the promo. I absolutly love Be There Dub and El Farouki's Dub and Club Mix #1 instrumental and since I am not a big vocal guy myself, I also wish you had the Original Mix without the Vocals. Anyway, thanks for this. I love your sound. It's in my bag. [note: we will have that on the final release, fyi)
Chris Niteshake (Locked Groove), Greece:
I think the original track is a stormer. Simone De Nauw has a really beautiful voice I would definitely hear any track from now on from this lady! Now, the remixes are tough. Hard to choose from. Jon Silva did good work on the club mix (version 1). The Spin Science remix is a fantastic atmospheric production. El Farouki doing also a good work embedding his unique style in his remix, I prefer his dub. Electrique mix is for the electro house fans out there. And the "Luvelectro" is 808 action in his finest! Original - Silva - Spin Science - Luvelectro in my bag!
Christian (C&M Productions), Switzerland:
many thanks for the promos!!!!! great release the 008!!!!
Da Funk (Acryl), Switzerland:
what a release here for pesto!!! the original is such a great piece of music! wonderful harmonies, melodies and a badass bassline! killer track! the spin science and the catchbass mix are also pretty ace! great job!
Dana Bergquist (Symphonic, Pryda), Sweden:
Absolutely amazing, this you might have track of the year already!! Hard too choose best mix out of them, I like them all especially Original, Spin Science (all mixes) and Electrique Instrumental. Can't express it enough, simply beautiful, makes me have hopes for the house scene in this all too minimal climate we're in nowadays.
DJ E360° (Sysex Records), USA:
I think all the tracks are quality. Definitely getting plays in all my sets @ WMC in a few weeks. I have also played it over the weekend and got good reaction to the Club Mix 1. The vocals are hot.
DJ Linus (Exun), Germany:
absolute the best pesto release ever! my favs are "be there dub" and "electrique remix"! will play them every weekend @ Pacha. full support guranteed
Franco Martinelli (housepage.net), Italy:
Very nice release, this fresh vocal-house track is served in several remixes to please all the dancefloors. I prefer the more housey Spin Science Remix and Be There Dub .

Ricardo Torres supports Pesto
He's got a new mix online that starts with "Love In War". You can find his latest DJ mix named "Looking West" (so are we...hehehe) in the mixes section on Ricardo's web site.
Ricardo was also invited to play alongside his personal hero and very good friend Jay-J on the Shifted label party at Miami's Winter Music Conference this year. People attending WMC this year should make sure to check out his set and the ones of the other House icons on Saturday, the 24th of March at Miami's Bash. Besides Jay-J and Ricardo Torres, the line up also offers Chicago's Marc Grant, Heather, Random Soul from Australia and some other surprises.
Also make sure to check out the latest West Coast Collective mix on Shameless Sessions (SSRadio UK) featuring Kevin Christopher and Ricardo Torres. The show also includes an exclusive interview with Pestolera Sandra Lima who will have "Higher" released on Pesto soon.
Rucyl signed to Pesto
New York City based Rucyl Mills would be considered a songwriter or storyteller. Her lyrics are intimate and pure, carried by the voice of an angel. She has proven on several occasions that she is a professionally working performer. Next to releases on her own label, her resume lists vocal backups and performances as well as songwriting jobs.
She recently teamed up with no less talented producer Pete Gust from Stockholm, Sweden who just made an amazing remix of "Love In War". We are more than glad to offer you an outstanding release for this autumn including both the original and Pete's remix of which the latter already received tremendous feedback among DeepHouse lovers.
